Is AppSumo Plus Worth It? The $99 Break-Even, Worked Out From the Terms
Quick answer: AppSumo Plus is worth it on the Annual plan if you will buy one deal of $25 or more in each 90-day window. The plan costs $99 a year and issues four $25 coupons, one every 90 days, so the coupons alone return $100 against the $99 fee and the 10% discount is pure gain. The Monthly plan at $12 has no coupons, costs $144 a year and needs $1,440 of purchases before the 10% covers it. All three plans are subscriptions AppSumo describes as "not refundable", so the decision is made before the first coupon is used. Every figure was read on appsumo.com on 25 September 2026.
What does AppSumo Plus cost, and what is in each plan?
AppSumo sells the membership in three plans on its Plus page, read on 25 September 2026. Plus Annual is "$99.00/yr", which the page shows as $8.25 a month. Plus Monthly is "$12.00/mo" and can be cancelled at any time. Plus Pro is "$199.00/yr", or $16.58 a month.
Every plan carries the same core list. The page promises "10% off every order, automatically", a "Free KingSumo + SendFox License Tier 1", "Early Access, Last Call & Extended Access" to deals, "The Sauce community + 50+ masterclasses", "VIP support with 2x faster response times" and "We Got Your Back coverage". Two lines separate the plans. Annual and Pro include "$100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days)"; Monthly includes none. Annual and Monthly carry one year of shutdown cover; Pro carries two.
| Plan | Price | Per month | Coupons | We Got Your Back cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plus Monthly | $12.00 a month | $12.00 | None | 100% credit, 12 months |
| Plus Annual | $99.00 a year | $8.25 | $100 ($25 every 90 days) | 100% credit, 12 months |
| Plus Pro | $199.00 a year | $16.58 | $100 ($25 every 90 days) | 100% credit, 24 months |
Read the table as a buyer. Monthly costs $144 over twelve months and drops the one benefit that pays the fee back by itself. Pro costs $100 more than Annual and buys one thing Annual does not: a second year of shutdown cover on each purchase.
Why the four coupons decide the Annual plan on their own
Here is the arithmetic the review pages bury under the 10% headline. Annual and Pro members receive "$100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days)". Four 90-day windows fit in a year, so a member who uses every coupon gets $100 back. The Annual fee is $99. The coupons alone return $1 more than the plan costs.
That turns the decision into one question: will you make a purchase of at least $25 in each 90-day window? The Plus page states no minimum order for a coupon, so the $25 threshold is only the coupon's own face value. Miss a window and the coupons no longer cover the fee on their own; the 10% discount has to make up the rest.
If you do use all four, everything else the membership does is upside. The 10% on every order, the free licences, the earlier access and the 100% shutdown credit all sit on top of a fee the coupons have already paid. That is the finding this article is built on.
The Monthly plan has no coupons at all. Twelve payments of $12 come to $144, and every dollar of that has to be recovered through the 10% discount or through a benefit you would otherwise have paid for.
How much do you need to spend before the 10% alone pays the fee?
Strip the coupons out and price each plan on the discount by itself. On Annual that is $990 of purchases a year ($99 divided by 0.10). On Monthly it is $1,440 ($144 divided by 0.10). On Pro it is $1,990.
| Plan | Fee for a year | Purchases for the 10% to cover the fee | Coupons | Break-even with every coupon used |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plus Monthly | $144 | $1,440 | None | $1,440, no help from coupons |
| Plus Annual | $99 | $990 | $100 | Covered by the coupons alone |
| Plus Pro | $199 | $1,990 | $100 | Coupons cover $100; the 10% must cover the rest |
A worked example makes the Monthly gap concrete. Suppose you buy a $500 basket of deals in a year. The 10% discount saves $50. On the Annual plan, add the four coupons worth $100 and the membership has returned more than its $99 fee. On the Monthly plan the same basket returns $50 against $144 paid. So Monthly should be judged as a short rental of the 10%, and of the 19% Black Friday rate, rather than as a membership.
What are the free SendFox and KingSumo licences actually worth?
Every Plus plan includes a "Free KingSumo + SendFox License Tier 1". Both are AppSumo Originals, which their product pages describe as "Created and developed by AppSumo for entrepreneurs everywhere", so AppSumo is giving away its own software rather than a partner's.
SendFox is the email tool. On 25 September 2026 its AppSumo page sold the lifetime licence at $29 against a list price of $480. Tier 1 carries 300,000 lifetime email sends, 5,000 contacts, and unlimited forms, landing pages and automations. It showed 4.0 stars from 342 reviews. If you would have paid the $29, the Plus licence saves that; if you already run a list elsewhere it saves nothing, and the fair comparison is against the tools in this site's review of email marketing software.
KingSumo is the giveaway tool. It has a free plan at $0 with unlimited giveaways, bonus entries, embeds, multiple prizes and integrations with SendFox and Zapier. The Pro licence that Plus includes sells for $49 against a list of $228 and showed 3.83 stars from 65 reviews. Because a free plan exists, the Pro licence is worth $49 only to someone who needs what Pro adds.
Together the licences come to $78 at AppSumo's own prices, and that only if you would have bought both. Treat $78 as the ceiling of this benefit, not its expected value. It is not the reason to buy Plus. The coupons are.
The membership cannot be refunded, so the decision comes before the first coupon
AppSumo's deals carry refund windows. The membership does not. The Plus page states "All plans are subscriptions and are not refundable." AppSumo's Refund FAQ narrows that only slightly: "After membership rewards have been used, your AppSumo Plus membership is non-refundable." Read together, the two sentences mean that whatever refund path might exist closes the moment a coupon, a discount or a free licence is redeemed.
Compare that with a deal refund. AppSumo's Refund Policy offers a "full refund of the purchase price within the timeframe stated on the deal page (ex: 30 days, 60 days)". Refunds go back to "the original form of payment that was selected during your refund", and AppSumo credits are "instantly returned to your AppSumo account". Card refunds post in five to ten business days. None of that reaches the $99 or the $199. The fee is spent when it is paid.
The practical rule follows. Do not buy Plus to try it. Buy it on the day you are about to purchase a deal, apply the 10% to that order, and accept that the fee is gone. If you cannot name a deal you expect to buy in each of the next three 90-day windows, Annual is a bet, and Monthly at $12 is the cheaper way to place it.
The benefit the review pages skip: 100% shutdown credit, and two years of it on Pro
Most pages ranking for this query price Plus on the discount and the coupons and stop, leaving out the clause that changes the risk of every purchase. AppSumo's We Got Your Back help page, read on 25 September 2026, states: "We Got Your Back provides a 100% credit to Plus customers and a 50% credit to non-Plus customers whenever a Select tool shuts down during the purchase's Coverage Period."
What a Plus member is covered for
The page sets out three listing tiers and two classes of buyer. "AppSumo Plus Customers may become eligible to receive store credit covering 100% of the purchase price of a Select or LaunchPad Product"; "Non-Plus Customers may become eligible to receive store credit covering 50% of the purchase price of a Select Product." It names no credit at all for non-Plus buyers of LaunchPad tools. Radar products, described as "brand new and at the earliest stage of their journey", are given no Coverage Period. Once a Radar deal's refund window closes, nobody is covered, member or not.
| Buyer | Select tool closes | LaunchPad tool closes | Radar tool closes | Coverage Period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Non-Plus | 50% store credit | No credit named | No credit | 12 months from purchase |
| Plus Monthly or Annual | 100% store credit | 100% store credit | No credit | 12 months from purchase |
| Plus Pro Annual | 100% store credit | 100% store credit | No credit | 24 months from purchase |
Work it on a $300 Select purchase. A non-Plus buyer whose tool closes eight months later receives $150 of store credit. A Plus member receives $300. On one purchase of that size the difference is $150, more than the Annual fee. The credit is "issued as AppSumo Credits, which are not exchangeable for cash", so what comes back is spending power on the marketplace, not money. And the claim has to be filed by email "within 30 days from the date a closure announcement is made".
The Pro difference is time, not percentage. "Purchases made while the Customer has an active Plus Pro Annual membership have a Coverage Period of 24 months from the Purchase Date. All other purchases ... have a Coverage Period of 12 months from the Purchase Date." The cover is locked at checkout: "A purchase's Coverage Period is fixed on the Purchase Date and does not change if the Customer later upgrades, downgrades, or cancels their Plus membership."
Two cautions. Check whether a listing is Select, LaunchPad or Radar before you count on the cover. And these terms are what AppSumo's unhappy customers argue about. On Trustpilot, where AppSumo scored 3.6 from 1,513 reviews with 19% at one star on 25 September 2026, the one-star themes are shutdown claims refused or disputed, and refunds issued as store credit rather than to the card. Whether the marketplace itself is safe to buy from is answered in this site's reading of AppSumo's refund and shutdown terms.
Transparency note: CriticNest has no affiliate or commercial relationship with AppSumo, SendFox, KingSumo, ApiX-Drive or any other tool named on this page. CriticNest has not joined AppSumo's affiliate program as of 25 September 2026, and every AppSumo link in this article is a plain link with no tracking parameter; if that changes, the disclosure will move to the top of this article. For context, AppSumo's affiliate page offers to "Earn 100% of the sale (up to $50) in commission whenever a new AppSumo customer you send us makes a purchase" on a "7-day cookie to help monitor your referrals", which is the arrangement behind most pages ranking for this query. Every price and clause here was read on appsumo.com and help.appsumo.com on 25 September 2026.
Which deals can you only buy with Plus?
Some listings carry a "Plus exclusive" badge, meaning an active Plus membership is required to buy at all. On 25 September 2026 ApiX-Drive, an automation tool, was one of them. Its Tier 1 was $69 against a list of $1,188 for 250 connections, 50,000 actions a month and a one-minute interval; Tier 2 was $139 and Tier 3 $249. It showed 4.62 stars from 42 reviews and a 60-day refund window.
Price the exclusive honestly. ApiX-Drive Tier 1 at $69 plus the $99 Annual membership it requires is $168 in year one for 50,000 actions a month. In year two you pay $99 if you keep Plus and $0 if you drop it. The 60-day window on the tool does not extend to the membership, so if you return ApiX-Drive on day 59 you keep a Plus subscription you may not have wanted. Where it sits against Zapier's task caps and the sold-out deals is worked through in the comparison of Zapier alternatives on AppSumo.
Deal prices and availability change weekly on AppSumo. A price quoted here is the price on 25 September 2026, a sold out deal may return, and a Plus exclusive badge can be added or removed.
Does the 19% Black Friday rate pay for Plus on its own?
During AppSumo's Black Friday event the sitewide discount nearly doubles for members. The 2025 collection page, still live on 25 September 2026, reads "All 10% off (19% off for Plus members)". Plus members also had Extended Access, a members-only window from noon Central Time on 2 December 2025 to noon on 5 December 2025, after the public sale closed.
On a $500 Black Friday basket, 10% saves $50 and 19% saves $95, a difference of $45. The extra nine points cover the $99 Annual fee at $1,100 of Black Friday purchases ($99 divided by 0.09). Set the same nine points against a $12 Monthly fee and the sum changes: the $45 gained on a $500 basket is well above what the month costs.
That is the Monthly plan's real job. Take it for the sale month, collect the 19% and the Extended Access, and cancel. How the 2025 drops were sequenced, and why the 60-day refund window on a November purchase closes in mid January, is in the AppSumo Black Friday post. Dates for 2026 had not been announced as of 25 September 2026, and this article does not predict them.
Which plan fits which buyer?
Take Annual if you buy one deal of $25 or more in each 90-day window. The coupons return $100 against $99, and the 10% and the 100% shutdown credit are free on top. Set a reminder for the renewal date, because the fee is not refundable once a reward has been used.
Take Monthly for one month only, during Black Friday, if you will spend a few hundred dollars in the sale and want 19% instead of 10% plus the Extended Access window. Cancel before the second $12 leaves. Outside a sale, Monthly costs $144 a year for what Annual delivers at $99 with coupons added.
Take Pro only if you buy Select or LaunchPad tools in amounts where a second year of 100% cover is worth $100 a year to you. Pro adds nothing else over Annual: the same coupons, the same discount, the same licences.
Skip Plus if you buy one or two deals a year, or if most of what you buy is Radar, where the shutdown cover does not reach.
On cancelling before renewal: the Plus page says "cancel anytime" of the Monthly plan and calls all three plans subscriptions, and that is as specific as the published wording gets. So note the renewal date at purchase and cancel before it, not after. Once a renewal has charged and a reward has been used, the "not refundable" line applies again.
The short version
AppSumo Plus costs $99 a year on Annual, $12 a month on Monthly and $199 a year on Pro, as read on 25 September 2026. The finding that decides it: Annual and Pro issue four $25 coupons a year, so the coupons alone return $100 against a $99 Annual fee, and the 10% discount, the free licences and the 100% shutdown credit are all gain. The condition is one purchase of at least $25 in each 90-day window. Monthly has no coupons, costs $144 a year and needs $1,440 of purchases for the 10% alone to pay it back, which makes it a one-month rental for Black Friday's 19% rate. Pro's only extra is 24 months of shutdown cover instead of 12, fixed at each purchase date. Every plan is "not refundable", so decide before the first coupon, not after.
Frequently asked questions
What is AppSumo Plus?
AppSumo's paid membership, sold in three plans: Annual at $99 a year, Monthly at $12 a month and Pro at $199 a year. Every plan gives 10% off every order, a free Tier 1 licence for SendFox and KingSumo, early and extended access to deals and 100% We Got Your Back shutdown credit. Annual and Pro add $100 in coupons a year. Figures read on 25 September 2026.
How much does AppSumo Plus cost?
On 25 September 2026 the Plus page listed Annual at $99.00 a year, or $8.25 a month, Monthly at $12.00 a month, and Pro at $199.00 a year, or $16.58 a month. Over twelve months the Monthly plan costs $144, more than Annual and without the four $25 coupons Annual includes. All three are subscriptions that AppSumo states are not refundable.
Is AppSumo Plus worth it if I only buy one or two deals a year?
Usually not. The 10% discount alone needs $990 of purchases a year to cover the $99 Annual fee, and the coupons only pay the fee back if you buy something of at least $25 in each of the four 90-day windows. The exception is Black Friday, where one month of the $12 Monthly plan buys the 19% member rate.
Does AppSumo Plus come with coupons?
Annual and Pro members receive "$100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days)", according to the Plus page read on 25 September 2026. The Monthly plan receives none. The page states no minimum order for a coupon. Used in full, the four coupons return $100 against the $99 Annual fee, which is why the Annual plan can pay for itself before the 10% discount is counted.
Can I get a refund on AppSumo Plus?
Not in the way you can refund a deal. The Plus page says "All plans are subscriptions and are not refundable", and AppSumo's Refund FAQ says "After membership rewards have been used, your AppSumo Plus membership is non-refundable." Deals carry their own refund window, usually 60 days, but that window does not extend to the membership fee. Decide before redeeming the first coupon or discount.
What is the difference between AppSumo Plus Annual and Plus Pro?
Price and cover length. Pro costs $199 a year against $99 for Annual, and the only extra is We Got Your Back cover of 24 months on each purchase instead of 12. The coupons, discount, licences and access windows are the same. The cover is fixed on the purchase date, so a purchase made while Pro is active keeps 24 months even if the membership is later cancelled.
What does We Got Your Back pay a Plus member?
AppSumo's help page states that Plus customers "may become eligible to receive store credit covering 100% of the purchase price of a Select or LaunchPad Product" if the tool shuts down inside the Coverage Period, against 50% for non-Plus buyers of Select tools. Radar tools carry no cover. Credit is issued as AppSumo Credits, not cash, and the claim must be emailed within 30 days of the closure.
Does AppSumo Plus include SendFox and KingSumo for free?
Yes, at Tier 1. On 25 September 2026 SendFox sold for $29 on AppSumo with 300,000 lifetime sends and 5,000 contacts, and the KingSumo Pro licence sold for $49. Together that is $78 at AppSumo's own prices, but only if you would have bought both. KingSumo also has a free plan, so the Pro licence matters only if you need what Pro adds.
What does AppSumo Plus give you on Black Friday?
In the 2025 sale, Plus members received 19% off Black Friday deals against 10% for everyone else, and a members-only Extended Access window from noon Central Time on 2 December to noon on 5 December 2025. On a $500 basket the difference is $45. The extra nine points cover the $99 Annual fee at $1,100 of purchases. AppSumo had not announced 2026 dates as of 25 September 2026.
How do I cancel AppSumo Plus before it renews?
The Plus page describes the Monthly plan as cancel anytime and all three plans as subscriptions, and publishes no more detail than that. Because the fee is not refundable once a reward has been used, cancel from your account before the renewal date rather than after it. Write the renewal date down at purchase; a renewal that has already charged is a new non-refundable term.
